N&B In the far east... part I

Ni Hao (Hi there),

So here's our first sign of life, still from Beijing, and so far our trip
has really been a piece of cake : ) Almost smooth journey, so far very
friendly people and no problems digesting chineese food or water!

Customs was no issue... we sliced in the country like a knife in the
butter... where it's nice and sunny... when you can see it through the
smog...

First impression: huge, noisy, some sort of mystical organization in the
middle of chaos... we drove through the city on taxis and busses and
accidents seem so iminent but never happen... it's amazing... the thousands
of bikes we expected to find in every corner have been replaced by millions
of cars...

Yesterday we hiked for hours the great wall up and down - and it' s really
great! (if you find the right spot to hike, from Jingshaling to Simatai,
away from the thousands of tourists at Badaling. The price for this: 5 hours
in the bus to get there and another 5 hours to go back, uffa!)

Today is already the last day in Beijing, we managed to get some black
market hard sleeper places to Xi' an...and with the national holiday
approaching, it' s getting more difficult to find train tickets. Let's see
where we' ll get stuck : )

But we won't leave Beijing without checking out the forbidden city and the
temple of heaven... coming right up in our agenda... so, stay tuned and
we'll keep you posted : )

a big oriental hug
